Tinos
Panagia Evangelistria of Tinos

On the island of Tinos the marble church of the Evangelistria stands above the harbour. Pilgrims climb the carpeted street, some on their knees, toward the icon of the Annunciation. Bells, wind, and the Aegean hold the town in a clear, salt light.
A pilgrim of Palomeya goes up that street with your names and remains for the service before the icon. The shrine is Greek and Orthodox; Palomeya does not speak for it. A person simply arrives, prays, and comes down again to the sea.
